VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN

Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies would
not be possible without the help of nearly
2000 volunteers. They are the heart and soul
of the Festival. Their support, as well as
the support of vendors and sponsors, makes
Thunder Over Louisville one of the top 100
events in North America - entertaining
crowds in excess of 500,000 annually.
The biggest need for volunteers during Opening
Ceremonies, comes the day after the big show
- Thunder Clean-Up. Each year, volunteers
are needed to pick-up nearly 50 tons of
garbage that is left behind by the crowd on
both sides of the river. Groups like the Boy
Scouts and Dismas Charities have volunteered
to help in past years.
If your organization would like to volunteer
for Thunder Clean-Up, please download the

You can also register to be a volunteer in
the Pegasus Pin Program. Pegasus Pin
sponsorships are one of the major sources of
revenue for the Kentucky Derby Festival. The
pin sales have increased tremendously since
Pegasus Pins were first introduced in 1973 -
more than 500,000 are sold annually. And,
Thunder Over Louisville has become the
largest day for the pin sales.
If you would like to volunteer in the Pegasus
Pin Program or as a general volunteer of the
Festival at other events, please download
