Pole Position features four Indy Car simulators


The IndyCar® Series Fan Experience is the newest feature of “Thunder on the Ground”, a venue of exhibits and interactive displays that offer hands-on entertainment during the Derby Festival’s Opening Ceremonies: Thunder Over Louisville.  Held Saturday, April 23, on downtown Louisville’s riverfront, the Thunder event venue extends from Clay Street to 8th Street, north of Main to the river.  Interactive areas, including one featuring elements of the Indianapolis 500 will be featured in numerous locations on the grounds.

While waiting for or enjoying the air show, Thunder patrons can experience with the fast-paced excitement of IndyCar® Series racing at the IndyCar® Series Fan Experience.  Fans can get a taste of another exciting event by sampling different areas of this highly interactive exhibit, including Pole Position and the 2005 Indy 500 Fan Tour.
Admission is a Derby Festival Pegasus Pin, available at the entrance.  The exhibit opens at 11 AM.

Featuring Memorabilia from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 including: an actual original brick, helmets, driver’s suits, fire/safety suits, steering wheel, and other actually IndyCar parts, this exhibit brings the thrill of the Indy Series to the fans of all ages. Fans who want to experience the action and excitement of IndyCar® Series racing can get a first-person point of view when they step into the Pole Position simulator.  Designed to bring the action from the track straight to the participant, an on-board video game system offers high speeds and banking to the fan, who will feel the rush of adrenaline as they race around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  See the official Chevrolet SSR pace car used for the INDY 500, meet some of the Indy 500 Festival Princesses and get free giveaways including Indy 500 magnets, driving trading cards and speed posters.

IndyCar® Series Pole Position
• A high-performance mobile racing simulator using REAL IndyCar® Series cars that allow fans to drive their favorite driver’s car around their favorite tracks
• Display is a four (4) race car set-up  with flat screen TV monitors

2005 Indy 500 Fan Tour
• 35 ft. RV wrapped with images of the Indianapolis 500 and Full Size IndyCar Simulator
• Memorabilia from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 including: an actual original brick, helmets, driver’s suits, fire/safety suits, steering wheel, and other actually IndyCar parts. 
• Fan photo opportunity with show car, winner’s wreath, and a cut out of the Borg-Warner Trophy
• Chevrolet SSR official pace car used for the INDY 500 on display
• Race ready IndyCar Series Race car on display
• One or more Indy 500 Princess will join Derby Festival Princesses and greet fans.

The 16th annual Thunder Over Louisville features the latest in pyrotechnic technology set to a musical tribute to 50 years of Rock-n-Roll.  Last year, an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 people lined both sides of the Ohio River to watch the all-day event. The Thunder Air Show is ranked among the top five air shows in the nation.  The event is sponsored by Caesars Indiana, Chase, Ford and UPS.
