2011 THUNDER TO BE REBROADCAST WORLDWIDE!

2011-06-30

The Kentucky Derby Festival's 2011 Opening Ceremonies - Thunder Over Louisville - will be broadcast next month on the American Forces Network to more than one million U.S. Armed Forces personnel and Department of Defense civilian employees and their families stationed overseas. The 120-minute program, which features the entire Thunder fireworks show and highlights of the Thunder Air Show, will be shown on July 4th and 10th to personnel stationed overseas in approximately 175 countries and U.S. territories, as well as aboard more than 140 U.S. Navy ships.

WLKY, the local CBS affiliate, exclusively aired the original Air Show and fireworks coverage on April 16 of this year and has produced the 120-minute edited HD version that will be shown on the American Forces Network in conjunction with Independence Day celebrations. WLKY will also air a condensed, two-hour version of its Thunder Over Louisville coverage on Sunday, July 17, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Thunder Over Louisville - the Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies - is one of nearly 70 events produced by the Derby Festival in the spring. The 2011 Thunder Over Louisville, themed "Thunder Power," was the 22nd annual production. The show was sponsored this year by Horseshoe Southern Indiana, LG&E, Meijer, UPS and community McDonald's Thunder Funders.
