2002: STARS AND STRIPES THUNDER IS BOOMING SUCCESS
2002-04-21T14:32:53Hundreds of thousands of Thunder fans from the Greater Louisville area and all over the country came together on Saturday, April 20th to celebrate. Spectators were treated to a day-long airshow that featured some of the military's finest aircraft and daring civilian aeiral performances. The patriotic event featured a "Thunder first" with a special live performance by Grammy Award-winning artist LeAnn Rimes.
Hosted by Tricon (soon to be Yum Brands), the singer took to the Ohio River on a floating barge to perform two of her hit songs, "Can't Fight the Moonlight" and "How Do I Live". The concert-quality "Spirit of America" barge took Rimes in front of Louisville's beautiful Waterfront Park and under the Second Street Bridge before her performance ended with the singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner".
Thanks to the sponsorship of Ford Motor Co., Caesars Indiana, Radio One, Thornton Oil Corporation, Tricon and UPS, Thunder fans enjoyed the 13th installment of the nation's largest annual fireworks display.
